  1. Great story Paul have subscribed, now I’m on catch up on all your videos 👍👍👍

    1. Dependant on the areas you want to train there is a whole host of places to train. I teach myself. The MLA is a good place to learn also.

  2. Hi paul its Keith from Blackpool, hope your well mate.great video and I’m looking seriously into your trade

    1. km8773 Ahhhhh I did wonder if it was one of the 2 Keith’s I knew up there. As there was a guy who worked in all in called Keith also lol. Small world. You not in the pub game anymore

    2. @Locks in the City Ltd doing joinery for last 5 years m8 but have been so interested in locksmith and I’m going to join both trades m8,hope your well pal

    3. km8773 ok cool well locksmithing and carpentry compliment each other, so can run nicely along side of each other. I set up in 2011 after leaving all in. Moved to Wales now 6-7 months ago. So kind of starting over again

    4. km8773 just had enough of London in the end. Traffic, cost of living, standard of living. We visited here a few times and came here for a mini moon after wedding then moved here in May/June

  3. Hi Paul I am 18 and looking to become a locksmith I’am a bit like your self great at wood work and working with my hands I am from Dublin Ireland how Ming would it take to get my own company going and any tips too thanks

    1. Jordan Fagan it doesn’t take long to set own company up. It’s the experience and knowledge to do the job that takes the time. First up I start it as a hobby and see how you get on. If you enjoy it and pick it up then your know if your want to make it a career. Then you can grow your arsenal of tools.

  4. Great vid Paul…im 67 and my work life was as an electro mechanical engineer…I’ve always, a’s you said, been interesting in fault diagnosis and remedy so couple of months ago started looking at locks out of interest . I bought some picks and transparent locks to play with and watched hundreds of youtube vids. After a week i sucesfully picked my back door Basta eurolock and felt the same elation as you did on your first lock.
At my age i can’t see me going into business but just helping the elderly neighbors with lock probs.
Good luck with your business Paul and best wishes mate.

    1. Hi Phil, Thanks for the comment. Locksmithing is fun even as a hobby or handy talent. All the best.

  5. Hi Paul, Great videos and info and the honesty really informative and insightful.

I’m a self employed decorator and looking to change career now and locksmith has been in my mind for a long time. No real experience but have been a tradesmen most of my working life. Also noted your in Wales now like me do you do Training or think MLA beginners course is ideal? One thing I understand is there’s no better experience then being hands on and also have a good mentor any advice or help be appreciated

Keep up the great videos 👍🏻

    1. This Is me down to the bone. I’m a self employed decorator, looking to finally get out of this trade. How have you got on pal??

  6. Paul i have recently been made redundant and think with my redundancy money i may take some courses to help with me locksmithing, can you give me any advice please.

  7. Very interesting story pal. Sometimes things just fall into place when it’s meant to be love how it fell into place for you. I’m currently doing property management, and as much as I enjoy it I absolutely love DIY and I am looking to pursue the field of locksmithing, so would love your input on where to start and from what I’ve read you don’t need qualifications it’s more practical and experience.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi there,
Thanks for time taken to view vids and comment. Yeah no set recognised qualification in locksmithing. Though the MLA is a great place that gives guidance on the best practices etc. Maybe sometime in near future the MLA will become the standard all locksmiths have to meet as a minimum to remove the rouges and those that claim to be a locksmith as opposed to a lock changer.

  8. Great videos Paul. Can you suggest a lock picking set for a beginner looking to start practicing?

  9. What you said about retail is so true. You get sucked in 100%. Days do blend into one and the years fly by. Great video.

    1. As much as your willing to put in. If willing to learn and put in the hours and buy the tools then you charge what you want.

    2. @Locks in the City Ltd Obviously I realize as much as you put in the more you can make, but that doesn’t answer my question. Roughly how much a week?

  10. It really is a tough gig to get into I’d love to get bk into it but don’t know where to start

  11. Hi Paul..
    Been watching your channel.
Found it very interesting and informative..
What is your opinion on these 2 week courses.
As I’ve been looking at a few.
And interested taking up a new career..

  12. Hi Paul, great video! I am working as an estate agent for the past 9 years in a company that I own and I absolutely hate the industry, I have been looking for a change for a long time and have been wanting to get in to locksmithing since I left school 20 years ago but it just never happened. I also went to north west kent college in dartford and studied software development but got out of there to start working with an uncle in the shoes and keys industry at the time. I need to make this change happen and I could really use some advise mate, ideally I would need to find someone to tag along with to learn without pay and then start from there – money, tools and startup isnt a problem for me its only that I want to find someone that I can actually practically learn from properly, there are too many miracle courses and im worried about wasting more time and throwing money away… currently living/working in SE london – please let me know if you have any advise, appreciated in advance.
    Cheers
    Dan
